Here's one for the technical guys who really know what's going on.
Last year I bought a 2006 307SW. When I bought it, it had only done 35 000km. When I took it in for service people started getting confused. Apparently the service schedule runs either on actual km's, or on time. At 35 000km they did the 70 000km service, because of the age of the vehicle. The vehicle now has 65 000 kms, and according to the book, the service due now, is the 90 000 (or 95 000km) service which is supposed to include the replacement of the timing belt. Is this belt's life limited by the mileage / amount of use it has had, or is it a time limited component as well? I know that replacing the timing belt is going to set me back a lot of money, and I'll do it when it's due, BUT please advise me if this really is necessary at 65 000km, or can I run the rest of the servicing, and do the belt when the km's agrees with the schedule? The car is out of warrentee, and isn't covered by a service plan, so I'll appreciate an educated, honest answer. It could mean the difference between staying at home the holiday with a new belt installed, or going on holiday, and doing the belt later in the year. I've had ZERO mechanical problems with the car, and we love it to bits. A real pleasure, after driving a Nissan 1400 for 8 years! Thanks Chris and Ian |

Belts are due based on time also. Usually 70-80k on that engine or five years. Thats the rule of thumb i use anyway.
