Default 307 engine underpan

My daughter has damaged the plastic underpan in her 307 engine bay and it's hanging off......is this really, really, really essential to replace, or can I take the rest off and run without it.

I took mine off last year to do an oil change and never put it back on.

I can see how it could be useful as there is a belt pulley close to the floor, but it's such an arse to refit.
