Default 206 1.6 Hdi Problems

Hi Guys,

I am new to this and new to Peugoets, however I need some help please.

I have a 1.6 hdi sport.
The car seems to be lacking power and the fuel economy is not great.

I am getting about 50mpg at best from it - should I expect more?

Generally the car does not pull that well in 1st and 2nd, it revs freely but does not feel strong. After the magic 3000rpm in 3rd or the other gears it pulls quite well.

I have read on here about this FAP? system. I have also read on here about the magnets on the filler cap. I have checked my filler cap and I have one of the aluminium ones, but there are no magnets on it. Should there be?

If I should have some magnets on it, then where do I get some from? Any suggestions?

Is this the source of my bad performance and fuel economy? I.e. it needs to regenerate the DPF?

Also I read here something about a manual regeneration - how is this performed? Can anyone give me some clear details.

Thanks in advance, any help would be great.

Matt.

Regarding the magnets, there are 2 black plastic arms on the rear of the fuel cap, the magnets are visible situated towards the outer edge. If you unlock the car and remove the fuel cap for 10 seconds (engine off) and replace the fuel cap you should hear a loud buzzing from the additive motor.

Regarding regeneration, if the magnets are missing or a fault with the cap sensor it will log an error code. DPF regeneration will not take place until this is fixed. Overtime the FAP will clog up and display the “unblock diesel filter” on the display, after this the turbo will blow up. Manual regeneration can be done with Peugeot Planet, you can try forcing a regen by driving at 70mph on the motorway.

Fuel economy wise I have the same car and get 65-75mpg at 60-70mph, at lower speeds 40mph I can see anywhere around 80mpg. On average I get 750-800 miles to a tank, I drive 40,000miles a year so have good road craft. My philosophy...... a vehicle is a mechanical device that turns fuel in to brake dust. I don’t use the brakes unless I really have to.

Do you ever have the cooling fan come on for 10 minutes when you lock the car?

Get Diagnostics before you start poking around.
