Default 206 1.4 hdi starting problem

just bought a 206 1.4 hdi sw estate,
drove it home over 40 miles, then went to go out in it again and it wouldn't start,
it just clicked the starter motor, and didn't even turn over, 2 hours later i go out to the car to show my girlfriend and i tried to start it and it started first time,
so i switched it off and on several times and it seems fine now.

does anyone have any clue what could be the problem, as i would be scared to travel a long distance and turn the car off and not get it started again.

i am also in northern ireland if any one can reccomend me to someone to look at it ect

The gearbox earth is usually a good start , if you had no ignition lights when it didn`t start then the lead going to the engine bay fuse box would need checked , your not up my way or i`d stick it on the diagnostics for you.

My 306 had a problem like this. It would click but not turn over, suggesting power is being given to the starter, but no response.

This turned out to be a bad earth. The mechanic shoved his hand deep into the engine bay and twiddled a little (reconnected the earth) and tada, worked from then on!

Bad earth, most definitely if you're getting the power click.

Cheers mate, I'll keep you posted tomorrow, if I need a starter I'll probably give you a shout, I'm just going to check the earths ect and get it plugged in and see what fault codes come up!

It also happened when I put a engine in one of my old p1 306 dturbo, it was a loose earth on the gearbox and also my girlfriends dads berlingo van,
Thanks for the input, and hopefully I'll get it sorted in the morning.
