Hi all,
I bought myself a Peugeot 406 Coupe 2.2SE 2002 a few weeks ago from a dishonest foreign fellow. Figured out most of the lies on first inspection but missed the battery drain one. Never buy a car when you don't like the seller! Worked for a week and was lovely. Battery went flat, Immobilised since. It's been an eye opener. There doesn't seem to be enough information out there to run these cars as they get older despite the efforts of fab forums like these - even if you have all the diagnostic gear and clever friends. The lack of simple info like wiring diagrams mean we are subject to the Pug dealers. It's not cost efficient to spend the purchase price again to run the car for another week. I've always run older cars. I'm going to try to learn and keep this one going. But it's been a frustrating process so far. If anyone has photographs of the wiring connectors under the driver footwell for the 2002 cars I'd be much appreciative. Hoping to get photos from a breaker but waiting 4 days now. Happy to pay money. |

If you download service box from this site there are wiring diagrams on it , and if you get pp2000 and your transponder code you can recode your key

Could you point me in a direction. I'm not familiar with the site yet - looking around but couldn't find it.
Tried to recode the key - it says it has 2 already coded but the code on my card wasn't accepted. Also says it can't see the key I had in the ignition to get there in the first place. Fortunately the alarm is on it's own battery until I can recharge it with engine running and that's gone flat. Makes it more relaxing to fiddle. Last edited by vordmeister; 12-14-2011 at 06:35 PM. |

Thanks. The site is saying OOPS at the moment but hopefully it'll come back.

Made some progress today. Got fed up and plugged everything back together with the exception of the 3 wires in the underfloor carpet connectors I'm not sure about. No immobiliser light and the car started!
The guy I had hoped would provide a photo of the wiring keeps promising but doesn't deliver. This has been going on all week. Need an alternative route. The Service box download page linked from this site is down. Does anyone know if the eBay ones are any good? I'll order one anyway but recommendations would be much appreciated. Will also try paying Service box for access - they wouldn't take my money last time but a few more hours trying might do it. Last edited by vordmeister; 12-15-2011 at 04:30 PM. |

I can't send PMs but many thanks to the person who PM'd.
I'm on a bit of a slow connection so it will take about 45 hours to download for me. There's a bloke in Milton Keynes (15 miles away) offering a 3 DVD set on eBay. Looks like it has the wiring info so I guess it's worth a punt. Driving me mad trying to find basic info to help repair this thing. Guess the trouble was it stopped working in a big way so soon after buying. Had it broken down in smaller ways I would have had the time to find out where to find the info as it's not in the Haynes manual! I much appreciate your help. |

Fixed now. Thanks for the help and advise and sorry I can't return PMs (new members aren't allowed to send PMs).
It was those damned wiring connectors under the driver's footwell carpet that caused the trouble. They were badly corroded. That caused the plip on the key fob to stop working, the car to stop recognising the keys, the alarm to go off (and thankfully the electrical supply to the alarm to stop), the wipers and radio to stop working, the displays on the center console to go into powersave mode immediately after switching on the ignition. Really most things bonkers. Don't ever unplug a corroded connector without first taking a load of photos of where the wires go in. The pins break and the wires fall out, and info about where they go is not available. I've got more of a write up on the 406 Coupe forum. The immobilser problem 406 Coupe Club • Login and pictures of the wiring 406 Coupe Club • Login which will hopefully allow others with the same problem a bit of impossible to obtain info. |
