Hi, And welcome!

I am no 306 specialist, but one thing you can do is phone Peugeot and check that any recalls have been done to your car.

Another generic bit of advice is to check that the cam belt (assuming it has one) has been changed, and if not, think about doing it...

Don`t know about the petrol model but a diesel model engine blew on me once because the fan belt shredded and hit the timing belt somehow,
my advice change a fan belt regular for a few £`s ,
cost me over £500 for a new engine. (sorry 1.9 xnd model i think)
