Ok the overheating goes on still can't find the leak but that isn't the cause. The fan seems to have 2 speeds and the higher speed doesn't kick on sometimes. I turn off the engine and then turn it on again and the higher speed kicks in and the needle returns to normal almost instantly. But sometimes it doesn't.

Does anyone know if there are relays that control the two speeds? Or what else it could possibly be?

Thanks again,

Tony.

Hi

With regards to the water leak - if you cannot track it down by checking for signs of the coolant or even the dried remains of the coolant (which depending on type of coolant may be orange... and obvious), the only sensible way to find the leak is by using a pressure tester.

This will obviously need to be a garage job unless you have a friend that can loan you one.

Sorry that does not seem much help,m but its the only sensible way to find the fault without spending way too much time on it - or frying the engine.

Thanks the reply David.

That's a good idea, but I have had 3 coolant system leaks is the past year. One was when the top of the rad cracked, one was a burst hose and now this one, so I'm thinking the problem lies in extreme pressuse due to the overheating water not being able to escape fast enough or something like that. So I would like to see can I find the cause of the fan malfunction and then get the leak sorted.

Regards,

Tony.
