Default me again:-)

Hi Guys! You may have read from my last post my starter motor gave up on me, well I got a recon one in from Peugeot and it seems to have gone again, or do you know or anything else that could be the cause? recently my key seems to turn very easily in the ignition and today before the problem happened it kind of got stuck and needed a little force to turn the key. Oh yeah its a 607 V6 2001.

As usual any advice is much appreciated.

Regards,

Tony.

I have almost got to the bottom of the problem... the starter motor is fine its the ignition loom that seems to be the problem has anyone had any experience with these? when you take off the ignition barrel and cross the wires in the contact block there is life!! Anyone know how much these cost etc.

I seem to remember there was a recall note on ignition switches. Have a look on this forum under "recalls"

The problem was the key becomming stiff - then contacting the starter during engine running - thus burning out the starter.

If it is a recognised fault - GET THE DEALER TO SORT IT FREE ! - or at least pay for the parts.

thanks for the info.. the key became very loose, and before I replaced the first starter motor it was running on a little. but it wasn't running the starter once the engine was running it seemed to have a lag of about 1 or 2 seconds. I'd love if I could get it for free!! maybe its worth a shot, but the car is 2001 do you really thing they will entertain me??

If its a PSA recall then yes they should entertain you. Contact your local dealer who would confirm..

Local dealer wasn't very entertaining since I didn't but the car off him, he said he couldn't find anything on it, and I would have to buy the whole ignition!! So I was lucky enough to find a scrapped one and got the part for 40Euro which seemed a bit expensive for what it was but I wasn't complaining it got me out of a hole.

Anyway the trouble goes on and on yesterday I went for a drive which took me through the mountains and half way through the engine temp warning light came on and it told me to stop the car. So I did and have been taking it handy ever since.

I really really hate my car now it brakes down on average every six weeks

dont worry about the warning.. it would clear off.. make sure the water in the resorvior is level..

I have had the same message twice in the past few days.. I ensured that the water was ok.. just cleared the codes... bear in mind.. alot of these electric problems were resolved in the new facelift model..

its the norm mate.. still think its a lovely car..

Thanks for the help guys its appriciated. The link to the service guide doesn't really help is is just really the handbook as far as I can see unless you can tell me otherwise?

regarding the temperature thing it is actually overheating but it is down to the fact that their is a leak somewhere in the cooling system but it doesn't leak if I leave the car sitting in the garden, but if I drive off the cooling lover low warning message is displayed and I am putting in about 5ltrs per day. I can see water marks on a three way elbow which is located to the right of the engine and the top pipe is a small return hose to the water bottle. has anyone ever heard of this leaking before?

Also the knock in the suspension is getting seriously loud its on both sides and occurs when I go over small bumps or uneven road surfaces. I have changed the drop links before with no help and a ball joint which didn't help either. I have shocks ordered but some people are telling me its not the shocks or the car would be boucing around. Any ideas?

Thanks again..

Tony.
