Fucking hell!!! an arriva bus actually working! wats going on is the world ending...my dad drives for arriva in newcastle and he always seems to be breaking them, such as catching fire, engine breaking and killing the gearboxes...but back to the video, i would think the bus is in crawler gear as that what it is designed to do, especially on a newer bus model like that (not a spotter).

that hill is surprisingly similar to what i have to get up to get here at work called birk brow, charltens in guisboro...buses even overtake cars on that hill...

Pretty neat driving! But, not to belittle the driver's skills, the bus has the engine at the back, over the drive wheels - which makes a heck of a difference in the situation.

Last winter, I picked my little girl up fromher friend's place. The road is a short but steep hill. It was about March, so the snow was wet and over ice. The car just couldn't get grip. I asked the girl's dad, who has a 4x4 if he could drive it up. But he couldn't either. Then a neighbour came out and said to drive up backwards. I did, and it worked a treat. Now, once the road is covered in snow, I reverse up the hill. OK, it would be a bit dodgy if you had a hill like the one the bus had to negoatiate...

I drive Volvo bus chassis in and out of the paintshop every day at work. they do go well in icy conditions as the previous poster said [ weight over the rear drive wheels etc.
Best of the lot to drive would be the single deck Scania"s.....just THAT bit better...more "umph" etc
One poster said about buses catching fire....would"nt be the new hybrid electric / diesel buses currently run by Arriva in London??? They are scary stuff....20K worth of batteries sitting just behind the front n/side wheel arch!!!

Oh...two new 225/17"s on the front of the 407....new car in the snow

you close about the buses, my dad drives buses for arriva in newcastle...but when he was working in darlington...he told me a story of when he was coming back from catterick garrison he saw some smoke from the back pulled over on the a167 near reg vardys got out and saw flames from the back engine compartment....he got every one off safely and the bus just went up like a cardboard box....he rang his boss at the time and told him, after getting the blues and toos in the big red trucks there, and his boss said "dont be stupid, shit doesnt burn."
