Greetings to all of you from rural northern New Mexico. This is my first post. I have always regretted that in 1976 I did not purchase a Peugeot diesel wagon (404?). I walked past the dealer in Berkeley CA many times. Instead, I purchased a Dodge van and lived to regret that decision.
Now, I find myself in need of a roomy, sturdy, economical to drive car. It must be sturdy to survive out here. For the past 24 years I have been driving a Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 wagon, so I am used to "slow". As I review my needs in a car and what is out there, I keep going back to the 404 diesel wagon. The problem is I cannot find one anywhere, even on Ebay Motors. So, my question is where did they all go? I see plenty of similar vintage MBZ, Volvo, Saab. Clearly, thePeugeot was not widely distributed in the USA back then but some must have survived somewhere? Also, is it true this model was designed for the North African marketp- France still in touch with Algeria and other countries? |

404? You mean one of these from 1968? I think they went to the great scrapyard in the sky.
AFAIK, Peugeot did do "Africanised" versions - uprated suspension was one thing. Anyhoo, have a look here: http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/...evalue/Peugeot and weep at the prices

Yeah, still a few about. Several in Club Peugeot. A chap in the next village has a 203 Commercial.
