Hi, I own a 2002 HDI Partner, with 112,000km on the clock.
I live in Spain, and up until now have had no problems with the car, unfortunatly i do not know it's history, but have given the car a full service including new timing belt +tensioner. when driving down the road the other day, there was an audible scraping noise, which varied with the speed, so we pulled in to check the problem, listening under the bonnet it appeared to be coming from the aux belt area, i could not see anything, but noticed the new belt appeared to be slightly worn on the right side, (belt replaced onlt 500km ago), looked underneath, could not see any problem. when we reversed out of the pull in the noise got louder then stopped, but we noticed a piece of metal on the ground where the car had been, it's about 8-9 inches long and about 1 inch wide, very thin and bent in a half round shape. there is now a ticking sound which is not always present, and what appears to be a small amount of iron fillings being thrown up from the belt...... Any help or thoughts would be apreciated., it might have been thrown up from the road, just not sure...Ade Last edited by DurangO; 11-06-2011 at 10:35 AM. |

Sounds like the auto belt tensioner for the alternator belt has broken up. Get it checked.

ok time for an update.
Seems the harmonic balancer on the end of the crank was so worn, that a metal shim from between the inner and outer parts of the pulley had somehow worked it's way out, and in the process started to chew the aux belt, so a quick trip to a scrap yard has sorted out the poblem, at least i will know what to look for if it happens again.............. |
