I am going to see a 2002 peugeot 307 2.0 hdi 110 d turbo tomorrow and i was just wondering what the common problems with this car are and what to look out for, it is for sale as a car with no bumps or scratches so i presume this means that it has never been repaired after an accident. i know the basics of what to look for things such as damp around the car, rust or sprayed body panels but i would like to know what things to look for in a deisel engine because ive never had one before.
Also, how nippy is this car? im 17 and have just wrote off a 1.4 307 and my dads a bit worried about me crashin this one, ive told him that its a 307 and not some sort of ferrari but he is still worried so if anyone could let me know how fast it is id appreciate it ![]() Thanks! |

![]() Ultimately any car is only as fast as you drive it, if you're going to drive it fast you can potentially expect trouble.

You are definitely going to notice a difference in performance, and if you've never driven a diesel before, you're in for a surprise...... a good surprise I hasten to add - performance of diesels far exceeds petrols in my mind.
As for what to look for..... ask about DMF replacement, DPF, check all electrics, i.e. mirrors, windows, etc

Insurance on it for a 17yr old will be a pretty penny, especially as already wrote one car off within months of passing test.... future insurance premiums don't look good ![]() Be a much wiser decision to go small engined small car like most the 17yr olds do... at least the insurance rise due to the write-off won't be quite as bad

well done, you've done better than me at writing a 307 off....i managed to roll a 1.6 petrol 307 3 times! check my sig link below for pictures...i crawled out and walked away...no injuries...
anyways from that i went for a ford focus 1.8tdci and my god, just going up 0.2L is very noticeable...this car flies, now that is since the engine has freed up. insurance for me after the accident has only gone up around £400 but that is also including the general premium increases, bigger faster car and one claim.

well it didnt involve anyone else so i didnt involve my insurers! It was a wet night and a bad corner, just slid into the kirb and into a wall, didnt do much damage to the front of the car just all of the suspension, chasis and everything else in that region, even the exhaust cracked!
insurance last year on the 1.4 petrol was 3500, this year for the same car it would have been 2400 because of 1 year no claims and keeping the same policy and with my current insurers it will be 2700 third party or 2900 fully comp, so i know you will all probably think its bad but i checked what a 1995 corsa would be, just out of curiosity, 1.1 litre petrol, worth about £500 insurance would still be 2200, so i might as well get a good car! i didnt get the d turbo but im looking at a 90bhp 2.0 rapier today so hopefully il be able to get that! |
