Default URGENT advice need 2001 peugeot 206

Hi There,

Im completely new to this forum but in need of advice. I recently put down a deposit on a private sell of a Peugeot 206 1.9l Diesel. The details of the car are as follows:

Peugeot 206
1.9L Diesel
3dr
117000 miles
New MOT

basically i put the deposit down yesterday and when the man im supposed to buy it off turned it on it wouldnt start. He got the local garage to pop out and they informed him the head gasket has gone.

As this is my first car I really dont know much about them. The man has been really honest and given me my deposit back and told me once its all fixed at his cost hes happy to sell it one.

Any advice would be great. Is it worth still going ahead with the sale... the cars going for £750.

Thank you

Victoria

Thank you.

I was going to get the 206 as its a car i have seen friends have. What is the difference between the 206 and 307?

Im looking for a peugeot that will be good to get around town and shorter journeys and something that would be suitable for my 2 year old.

It's a difficult decision.

are you able to talk to the garage and find out why the head gasket went? (lack of coolant, seized water pump, broken cooling fan are usual suspects)

If you can be confident that the fault is fixed then I'd have no worries paying £750 for that car.

if they just fix the head gasket but don't do other parts associated with it then I'd walk away.

with a new head gasket I'd expect the head gasket to be done, and the cam belt to be changed, I'd also expect the cause to be found, and fixed.

Replacing the head gasket is probably going to cost as much as the guy wants for the car, given the price of metal, if I were him I'd have called a scrap yard to come to my house and collect, that's how I got rid of my first car that'd sat on my dads drive for ages, waiting for a simple fix, even coming out to you a scrap dealer will give you around a hundred quid for a car.

you have to wonder why this guy is going to spend £750 or more to sell the car for £750 when there are faster ways to get rid of the car...
