Default Surge / Lag on start up

Hi, I've had my 607 for 3 years and suddenly, when I first drive off, it's sort of surging and slowing for a few minutes. Someone said its the cold but its definately not that. I'm not clued up on technicals but could it be a dirty fuel filter? Its a diesel if thats relevant. Can anyone help? Thanks

it could be...from personal knowledge the fuel filter can cause random faults. in my personal experiance my car was fine untill i asked for "POWER!" then it would hiccup and jump, lurch the whole lot.

very cheap and easy to replace aswell i'd look in the service manual and check to see when its due to be replace (mileage/age) and check to see when it was last done.

edit: as you say its only on start-up, and not the entire driving range, i would also suggest a faulty glow plug...dont quote me on that tho.

If it were a problem with the fuel filter you'd have a depollution system faulty warning on multi function screen along with a fuel pressure too low fault in engine ecu.
Get a diagnostic check done. Post up P Codes.
