Battery could have had it, or alternator might not be charging it properly.
When you say its hard to start, how long is it taking to start?

Right mine turns over and after 5-8 turns it fires in but does not rev even if i press the accellarator. Then after 10 sec or so its revs fine. The heater plugs are brand new. Regards Andy |

Take it down Halfords or the like and have the battery tested - doesn't cost anything
If that is all OK, may pay to have the alternator output tested too... its a case of ruling things out one by one, and the cheapest/easiest ones first

What about the associated glow plug relay?

It has to be properly cold before the glow plug kick in, ambient temp of 3 deg C or below. It's low compression for a diesel, needs little if any pre heating. Indeed, cos they get so little use it's rare for the plugs to die.
Check the relay, but I think the problem likely lies elsewhere, crudded fuel filter on a minuscule air leak allowing fuel system pressure to fall overnight maybe.

Yep, the problem is unlikely to be heaterplugs.
Get the fuel system checked. Fuel pressure on the low pressure side and the high pressure side.
