Default Sound System

Now then!!!

The sound system in the Astra is dreadful. Would replacing the speakers make much of a difference or does most of the quality stem from the stereo unit?

Probably goes without saying, but I'd be better off getting the whole kit by the same manufacturer right?

Anybody got any tips on good, cheap sound systems?

will be a mix of both headunit and speakers... i would also look at the speakers to see if they have split... will show if the last owner blasted his music as they may be blown.

i would mix brands as its not always good to have the same brand i wasted money on crap brands and when i jumped to higher brands i wont go back also i tool my time in picking my audio up over time and ive got some great deals buying new and 2nd hand

heres my idea if a good system,

Headunit, Alpine CDA-9812RB ebay/gumtree £40-80

Speakers, Alpine Type R comps ebay/gumtree £30-50

Sub, JL audio 12w3v2 ebay/gumtree £50-80

now find some good amps you can pick up some old school JL and phoenix gold amps on ebay at the mo stick with good brands and you will have a
system you can keep for years, dont skimp on cheap wires as if your using
good brands you want the most from your system

Nice one. I'm not sure If I would want to go second hand like. I know I'm asking for the best money saver but I think I want to go new, at least I'll get the guarantees etc.

I'm replacing the stereo with the sat nav version that a company does specifically for the Astra so will do it around that time, rather than faff on twice.

Would it be advantageous to re-wire the speaker cables?

Provided the originals are in good nick and not chopped about, then no.

Ahh right. I was just wondering, since the Vx standard sound system is gash, would it just be the speakers that are providing the dog crap sound or would the cables be assisting the overall dreadfulness?

I like your answer though, quite chuffed to avoid re-wiring.
