Default Peugeot Winter Check

Anybody get this email. Free winter aftercare kit seems alright. £20 doesnt seem too much......

Cant upload attachment but this is the email....

Remember last winter? Freezing temperatures and falling snow have a way of bringing the country to a standstill.
So make sure your car is ready for whatever the elements have in store with a Peugeot Winter Check. An expert Peugeot-trained technician will check over your car to make sure it’s prepared for the colder weather, covering the following important items:

• Tyres
• Lighting
• Wipers
• Brakes
• Exhaust
• Steering and suspension
• Fluid Levels
• Battery
And, as an added bonus, we’re offering every Winter Check customer a free Winter Aftercare Kit, which includes a Peugeot Protect wash n wax, de-icer, screen wash and scraper. So don’t wait until the winter’s set in. Act now and you’ll be doing all you can to keep your car and your passengers safe on the road.

Money for old rope if you ask me..... a well serviced/maintained car doesn't need this, in my opinion.... and you could buy the 'free' kit for a lot less than £20

Tyres - check to see if they have loads of grip ie 3mm or more
Lights - Check they ALL work
Wipers - Check for cracks/splits and smearing...replace if necessary (dealers normally ping you with that)
Brakes - check your disks for rust/wear/scoring/warping. check pad depth (can do this by checking to see the fluid level - at min: needs replacing)
Exhaust - excessive smoke any blows and noises that shouldnt be there
Steering and suspension - check the PAS fluid levels, if PAS works. if steering wheels vibrates or wobbles excessively under speed could mean tracking/balancing required. check car for leaning to suggest bust suspension
Fluid levels - Screen wash, coolant, oil levels. dealers normally test the freeze and boil point of coolant
Battery - use a multimeter or a garage for a free alternator and battery test

so basically all your paying for is the kit anyways....calls con to me

Yep, would of thought they are just looking to hit you for extra labour, especially for the wipers.

Mines need replaced but is it wise to put new ones on when the snow could come as the freezing weather isnt good for the rubber.

I have valeo on at the minute and they have been great but thinking of getting PIAA blades this time....

Its a shame that people don't perform these checks any more. Every Sunday my granddad would enlist my help in checking the car over after washing it.
chopper1192 and jmkent like this.

As I mentioned before, it just comes down to good maintenance.... I check all mine whenever it gets washed.... levels, tyres, lights, etc... although a lot of what I check, the car checks itself every start too
I can never understand people driving with duff lights, bald/flat tyres.... it really doesn't take much to keep on top of running a car.

It seems a bit sad that people can't look after their cars anymore I suppose that the excuse is that it's gotten progressivly more difficult to look after cars

I made a simillar statement yesterday evening whilst watching the tele and seeing an advert for bikes at Halfords, with their team "assembling and safety checking"...

cars are one thing but I find it horrendous that people don't seem to even know how push bikes work anymore.

Indeed, far too many people neglect cars and then moan like crap when it fails on them. Far too many people don't even know the locations of the fluids, or what goes in them when they're low!

Duff lights is the bane of my existence, it really bugs me. On my way up north last weekend, and back down again I would say over 85% of the road users either had a duff headlight, a duff tail light(s), duff brake lights, no brake lights, or using incorrect lights for conditions; such as main beam for no reason, front fog lights for no reason and rear fogs for no reason!

What's even worse is most of the cars on the road complain and actively tell you a light is out! Complete ignorance!

Phil
