Default Peugeot?s 206 break the records

Peugeot?s star selling 206 model has topped all previous records for the company?s cars.

The Peugeot 206 has just broken Peugeot?s own production record, previously held by the much-loved 205. In seven years of production, from 1998 to 2005, almost 5,350,000 206s were produced worldwide, compared to 5,278,000 units of its predecessor produced in the fifteen years from 1983 to 1998.

Currently sold in 145 countries across the world, the 206 is presently produced or assembled at a rate of 3,300 vehicles per day, at six production sites worldwide. Two new plants in China and Malaysia will come on stream in 2006. The 206 is available as a three or five door hatchback, SW, GTi and Coupe Cabriolet and production of a saloon version will shortly begin in Iran, for a select number of countries.

The 206 has remained one of the top three overall selling vehicles in Europe since its first year in 1999, enjoying a stint as most popular car in Europe in 2002. It has enjoyed class leader of the European small car segment since 1999. It was the European leader in diesel sales in the small car segment, one third of all 206 vehicles produced to date have been fitted with diesel engines. And it was the first car in its segment to be fitted with a diesel particulate filter system, usually kept for larger executive type cars.

The success story of the 206 is far from finished. Worldwide production of the small car will continue up to 2010.
