Default peugeot 407 2.0 HDi - totally dead...HELP !

my car is a '54 plate peugeot 407 2.0 16v 136bhp HDi diesel and i had been driving it for most of the day with the odd 10 minute stop, i had driven around 250 miles with no problems or anything, i pulled up outside a shop and locked the car (as i thought) with the key because one of the buttons on the remote didnt work, came back to car went to unlock it and noticed that the fold in mirrors and the cental locking hadnt worked but on reflection it mustve been when i went to lock the car up that these hadnt worked then but i hadnt noticed, in fact id only locked the drivers door and for some reason the boot was also locked and still is. Anyway, i got in the car and went to start it and there wasnt a thing, no dash lights interior lights absolutely nothing, even the hazards didnt work. I ended up contacting the AA who came out and the mechanic checked the battery, alternator, starter motor etc etc and everything was fine there was power to everything but obviously something somewhere wasnt right and he didnt know what it could be. However my car was recovered to my house and is now sat on my drive. The car is just completely dead, can anybody help me please.

Sounds like a bad earth or the connection to main fuse box in engine bay , maybe "Davidireland" would have a better idea , wait until he comes on later, any diagnostics?

Hiya, the AA man said he'd checked the battery, alternator, starter motor, then he took the plastic cover off that covers some fuses and the ECU, he had some sort of electrical device that hed connected one end to the battery then kept touching other parts to see if there was powerr getting to it, i noticed that the reading on the device kept showing 12.52 volts and he said power was getting to everything, but obviously it isnt. Are the earthstraps what come from the battery to the inside of the wing ? and how could i check them please ?.. Thanks very much for your reply.....steve.

Yeah even if it lost the codes , the key will light up the ignition and turn the engine over but not start , thats why i think its some sort of earthing problem , usually the gearbox earth.

yes the key always starts the car, the dodgy button on the key hasnt interfered with anything it just means i have to use the key to operate the central locking.
