Default Peugeot 308: boot unlocked?

viewed a peugeot 308 hatchback yesterday and struggled to find a boot-release lever or button in the car. salesman said these are being phased out in all cars now and that you release the boot by touching the touch-sensitive area under the indented area at the back. this got me thinking then that if the car is open, as in when it is being driven, then by default the boot is unlocked and anyone potentially could open it if you were parked or at lights etc. If this is so, surely this has to be a design fault?

Thats why you have auto locking. By pressing the lock button on the dash and holding it pressed you turn on auto locking. Meaning the car locks just after drving off.

Had my 308 since last november, and i've not had anyone trying to open the boot.
If I did, i'd be reversing over the c**t.
Seriously though, i'm sure alot of cars have this design now.
In the 9 years I owned my 306, which had a similar thing going on, ie: door unlocked, boot unlocked, never had a problem.

the new 508's dont even have that, you have to press the "0" on the 508 badge to open the boot. Very sneaky

Jeez, my old carlton of the late 70's had a boot that unlocked with the CDL. If I wanted it secure I could have just pressed the door lock button in the car or, as aformentioned, set the auto-locking function in the pugs. Hardly a design fault, and far from being worth even wasting time pondering.
