Default Peugeot 307 HDI D Turbo Engine Noise

Hi,

I've just purchased a Peugeot 307 HDI D Turbo 110Bhp, 2003 with 72K on the clock. Driving this car feels fine with smooth gear changes and nice power deliver from the 2.0 ltr turbo 'nothing amazing though'... I've noticed a whining noise from the engine when ever I change down a gear and then lift my foot off the accelerator. Its seams to happen at different speeds and gears so is not isolated.

The clutch seams to be fine with a good biting point and no crunches or grinding however the cam-belt has not yet been done. A refurbished turbo was fitted, along with a full service in Feb 2011.

Please can anyone suggest what this might be?

Thanks
Jay

My car does this - hdi 307 - low speed when on over run (in gear but coasting without any throttle). I have had the clutch changed (for another reason, not related to the whine), it still did it with the new clutch. The whine is more pronounced at low engine speeds - it's probably there at higher speeds but road noise will drown it out.

This is on a non dual mass clutch as well (allegedly).

I don't think that it's anything to worry about.

Sounds like transmission whine. Loads of cars do it, but maybe you should think about changing the gearbox oil.
