Standard definition UK freeview uses MPEG2 so it won't work with saorview.
A high definition UK freeview box should work though - they handle MPEG4 don't they?

Jumping on the band wagon a little....
What are the differences between the MPEG2, MPEG4 and MHEG5??? We've had Freeview in the South West for years, fully switched some 2yrs or more ago now I think, and our TVs are showing the Freeview signal as being 576i (which I know is to do with the horizontal rate) but it is also showing it as MHEG5 - what is this?

In laymans terms because i don`t know any other , its to do with decoding different signals ,
here we`ve had uk digital for a few years through freeview , but to pick up RTE (irish) you need mpeg4 or mheg5 , this is with your digital box or if you buy a new TV you can get one with this , we have another way to get all channels Digital and Sky for £10 a month but i can`t talk about that here ![]()

I bought a Lcd tv for the Kitchen before christmas and it has a saorview decoder built-in...I'm getting (In Digital) RTE1,RTE 2(Hd)TV3,TG4,RTE 1(+1)RTE news, E3,RTE Jnr and a load of RTE Radio Stations..
![]() I'd say if you picked up a saorvew box/Mp4 box it should do the trick. Some info on here... http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...php?p=74937650 Ron.

Thanks Ron , but this is the funny thing , everyone says buy a FreeviewHD box and it`ll pick up the signal , well i have one but RTE audio only is it a case of waiting to switchover to see ??
Although RTE is Digital at the minute is it not??? |

RTE is both transmitted in digital and analogue atm...but from Sep this year the analogue signal will cease.
I'm not sure why your only getting sound but no picture... ![]() We are using our old analogue aerial atm which picks up the digital channels. Afaik once you have a good TV3 reception on analogue then it should pull in the digital channels...not sure what ye can pickup aerial wise..? More info here...
