Default New Scenic vs 3008

Hello everybody,
I'm choosing a car that I will lease for 1 year in France. Currently, I'm looking on two options: Scenic Diesel 130HP with GPS (I still didn't get a confirmation from the dealer on the trimming level they have to offer in leasing) or the Peugeot 3008 110HP HDI PREMIUM. Both are MT. The price are very similar, with Peugeot is somewhat more expensive. The reason I'm leasing a "big" car and not a cheaper one (like 207 or the clio) is because of my dog/dogs. I need the crate to fit into the trunk. The dimensions of the crate is as follows: 105x75x79
Unfortunately, in Israel (where I"m currently located) both of these cars are un-available so I can not take a look on them. Please help me choosing first based on the trunk size (without folding the back seats) and than based on general experience with these cars.

They're not really competing in the same market so it's difficult to recommend one over another.

If your dogs are big and you value a more comfortable and versatile interior, and better handling, the the 308 is for you.

If you want to save a few quid and don't mind compromising dynamics for a slightly beefier motor (the Scenic is heavier so partly negates the extra power), then go for the Renault.

It's trickier still because you're leasing, so reliabilty, the 3008s better finish and better anticipated resale value won't matter to you.

So, from your words I understand that the main advantage of Scenic is the price?

Pretty much. The 3008 wasn't voted What Car?'S car of the year for being worse that the fairly elderly Scenic.

The 3008 hasn't really had a chance to prove itself yet but scenics tend to have dodgy electrics and woeful gearboxes. If you only have it a short time tho then it shouldn't matter.

Apart from the upper body structure, interior and cabin electrics, the transverse anti-roll linkages and the forthcoming hybrid, the 3008 is a tried and tested collection of 308 engines, management, suspension floorpan and substructure.

The body is unlikely to cause problems, the suspension is clever but nothing raidical, which only leaves the cabin electrics as a risk. That said, the 308s are spot on, so it looks as if pug have finally got a grip (pug did say that improving finish and reliability were the biggest priority for project T7).

The Meganes underpinnings are almost a decade old, and were never considered class leading when new. the stock one only seats 5, which instantly makes it pointless as a people carrier (the 5008 is the people carrier version of the 3008). Not a bad car, but it's a bit of a lump and the extra mass makes the 2 litre diesel necessary rather than sporty.

I do feel obliged to say if these are your only choices then fair enough but there are better options than these two....

French cars only then you are sort of stuck with these two! Although you could probably get a C4 picasso cheaper.

But then the C4 Picknose-o's chassis isn't as sharp as the 3008.

I still think it's an odd short list - an MPV and an SAV aren't really in the same market, and 5 seat peiople carriers are just a waste of time anyway. They cost more, don't seat any more, can't carry any more, handle worse than their saloon/hatch brethren, and depresciate quicker. At least the R008, Qashqai etc aren't claiming to be something they'te clealry not, and are an alternative take on the hatchback as opposed to potted people carriers.

If it's an SAV you want the the 3008 is easily the best there is of a limited choice o 3008, Qashqai, and Dodge whateveritscalled.

If you want an SUV, then the 3008 is no good, but then pug never said it was. Less than 1 in 30 Qashqais sold are 4 x 4, because they expensive, shit off road and slower on road and worse hanbd handling that its 2wd counterpart.

If it's an MPV, there are much better out there than an Migraine.

Unless you have some other need you haven't told us about (disability, a need to go off road etc) then I'd steer more towards a more conventional estate. Cheaper, bigger boot, the same size cabin (except in headroom, but I'm 6'3 and never have a problem), faster, better handling, same number of seats, blah, blah, blah.
