Default New problem

Hi friends,

My coolant is leaking in the driver footwell area and after a quick check I realized that it is leaking from the connection point of the heater matrix pipe just next to the accelerator pedal.

You can see it here:

I am quite sure that it is leaking because of the gasket(number 6).
I will change them with the new ones but the question is, how to drain the coolant from the engine side. I can drain the coolant from the radiator hose but it won't help because the coolant in the engine will still be inside due to the thermostat. So, could you please guide me what I should do to change this gasket there?
Many thanks.

Then how are you gonna refill the coolant? there will be no water when I fire up the engine. There will still be no water unless the thermostat opens the stream. Don't you think that this will cause some problems?

Refill the coolant through the expansion tank.
Fill it to the brim, run the engine on tickover and keep topping up, then when the stat opens, then you can bleed it.

I find this method a bit dangerous and need some clarification if you don't mind. The engine will be fired up without any coolant in the beginning because the engine is cool and stat closed the stream. Engine will reach high temperature soon because there is no coolant. Is this what you mean?
