A good move....

Only negative I suppose, instead of loads doing 75-80 as being just over, they might start doing 85-90 instead.... but that'll cost 'em..... fuel too expensive to drive at that speed for long

Good for those of us who can drive sensibly and adjust our speed to the conditions, traffic and weather.

The number of daily smashes I've seen on the M56 and M6 are testament to the fact that people can't do that. I can only assume the damage will be greater at the faster speed.

Makes those drivers who crawl along at 50mph or so even more of a danger!

Useful I suppose, assuming a level of competence behind the wheel, as plenty have said before me it's the annoying people who crawl at 50/60 either hogging the middle lane, or worse, the outside lane that is the real issue.

I really think we need to add some mandatory motorway training to our driving tests, the whole 'yay you've passed, no you can go on a motorway on your own and kill people' approach cleanly isn't working!

For me, 74 is still a perfect balance of progress vs efficiency, I don't intend on changing that!

Phil
