Default MOT changes on the horizon in NI.

Just read this with dismay this morning.... Your views sought on changes to MOT test | nidirect

Thanks goodness the tyre pressure sensor check isnt retrospective otherwise I'll be facing a bill!

But, now we have to check all our dash lights, trailer electrics... seat rails... air freshners

Heres the list:

Quote:
New testable items
The main changes that are proposed are:

•hazard warning lamps, switch and tell-tales (dashboard information lights)
•headlamp main beam tell-tale
•high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps, washing and levelling system
•electrical socket for trailers, including the function of 13 pin sockets
•steering, suspension, brake and transmission dust covers/gaiters
•steering wheel locking mechanism
•electronic power steering and malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
•steering and brake fluid levels including warning lamps
•electronic parking brake and electronic braking systems malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
•electronic stability control system including switch and the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
•additional braking devices, for example - brake retarders
•tyre pressure monitoring systems including warning lamps (only applicable to cars first used after January 2012)
•supplementary restraint systems (SRS), including airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters
•driver’s seat adjustment mechanism
•tow-bar assembly
•emission control systems including catalytic converter
•an increase of brake efficiency for cars first used on or after 31 December 2011 (from 50% to 58%)
•an increase of brake efficiency for drawbar trailers first used on or after 31 December 2011 (from 45% to 50%)
•illumination of speedometers
•tyre sizes compliance with tachograph information plate
•load sensing valve data plate on certain vehicles
•high visibility markings on certain goods vehicles
And more worringly for those of you on the mainland with no DPF's....
DPF removal | Ask Honest John | Honest John

True. But the changes to MoT tests from next April may test exhaust systems to original legal specification, forcing the very expensive re-installing of the DPF.
