Default Milage!!!!

My speedo was just shy of 78300 and I bought second hand one of ebay, with a a stated milage of 53k - as mine was faulty. When I plugged it in it came up as 130k???

Am I right in thinking the seller lied about the milage, as at first I thought the memory justed add the the 2 milage amount together???

My issue is that even when I put my old speedo back in it come up with the 130k, which make me believe the seller lied?

Can anyone advise please? Is this total 'set in stone' now or can it be solved?

Regards

Gareth

My last car was an Astra. In this car, the mileage is held in the car ecu and separately in the instrument cluster - so the 'true' mileage is always accessible with the correct kit. The speedo mileage did not change to match the true mileage - but as this was only out 5k ish I wasn't too bothered.

I'd be asking myself where does the 130k come from - could this be the actual mileage of the car? The speedo reading from the cars ecu?

Strange that the speedo that was 'faulty' reset itself to 130k. Why was it 'faulty' - tampering perhaps?

Or am I just being paranoid?

From what I gather the mileage is held in both the BSI and the speedo, it will always go with the higher value. So if the 2nd hand clocks read higher then the BSI will adjust upwards, never downwards.

Your clocks are reading miles and not KM's by any chance as when I took the battery off my Expert Van last weekend it all defaulted back to French and KM's

78300 miles = 126011.6352 kilometres

53000 miles = 85295.232 kilometres

------------------------------------

80778 miles = 130000 kilometres

Could be

Thanks for the reply. Anyone know how to change back to miles from KM?

If thats not the case, where can I get it changed back to the original milage?

In regards to the fault the previous owner look the engine management led & airbag led out!!!! Possibly to put 12 months MOT on the vehicle for me, however the fault is displayed on the centre clock - hence wanting new clocks as the 'STOP', battery or oil light was out too!!!!
