loud squealing and a puff of smoke ??

Hi,
I have a 407 2.0 hdi on a 54 plate with 108k, i have a loud squealing coming from the area around the starter motor gearbox area or above, it is very difficul to tell where exacly but the noise is for about 3 seconds on start up then gone till next start, the noise is when the engine fires but not on turnover,it sounds just like a belt slipping, there is also a very small puff of smoke dust coming from this area on startup.

Any ideas please.

i would say theres an issue with the clutch....
