LED headlight bulbs?

These home-made-looking things? Or are you driving an Audi R8?

Wouldn't have thought they were technically legal anyway, like aftermarket HIDs...

They are the ones i have seen but i was wondering how bright they were. There does not seem to be a comparison between watts and lumens

Don't think you will find them much use.... I don't know of any cars that use LEDs for headlights.... all other lights, but not headlights

The Audi R8. LED headlights are standard on European R8's, but $5000 option on the American model. At that price I don't think you'll find a headlight kit on ebay any time soon...

It's an option on the Prius too I think.

On a related note, I replaced all the 50-watt GU10 downlighter bulbs in my kitchen with 3-watt LED bulbs earlier. I thought they'd be crap but the light is surprisingly good. And I'll save a fortune on my leccy bill. :

You cant use Leds in headlights !!! Not enough lumens . OK in interiors or just for low power DRL's

I've got a Maglite with an LED conversion and Christ is it bright. I'd imagine a dozen of them would blow away any conventional light.

LEDs are bright.... up close..... but I don't believe they carry the light to such a distance as 'normal' bulbs.
There has been a lot of debate over there use for marine applications, i.e. nav lights on boats..... and as yet, they haven't been deemed acceptable due to the fact they cannot be seen from as far away as a standard bulb.

You'd be surprised. I do a lot of "light painting" in abandoned mines and tunnels, and most of my fellow painters do an LED conversion on our Maglites because the beam is far more focused over long distances.

My buddy's non LED torch:

Anyone interested more, visit NWEX.CO.UK and PM me if you're in the North Wales area and want to visit a mine!
