Default Lager poured over laptop!!!!!

Well my eldest daughters ex-boyfriend has been making a pest of himself again. His party piece this time was to pour a full can of lager over her laptop while it was switched on.As soon as he did it my daughter turned it upside down and left it overnight to drain. i.ve removed the battery and had a peep behind the keyboard to remove any remaining liquid, which to be fair was a very small amount, its been 36 hours since it happened so is it safe to charge it up and try switching it on????
Or is it more likely its completely dead and useless??
how much is it likely to cost her to repair it??? anyone got any idea
Is there anything else i can do to try and sort it ???

any advice appreciated
Neil

I've some advice Neil - enlist some big scary Phil Mitchell types to tell him to stay away from your lass.

Get her to tell him that all the photo`s of them together were on that laptop and she can`t get them back because it`s ruined and all the memories of those days are lost forever ,

mess with his head that`ll get to him.

I love being an Evil Bastard.

The laptop is most likely knackered, I've had the misfortune to throw coffee in two of mine in the past - you can try and clean them up and they may work for a while afterwards, but ultimately you start with sticky keys and they end up failing.

Assuming that was a deliberate act by the ex boyfriend I wouldn't be "talking to him" about it - at least not as such.

I would be repeatedly banging his head against the floor until he came up with the 3 or 4 hundred quid it will cost to replace it...and yeah I also have 18 and 20 year old daughters so I do understand the problems... that's also why I go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week to be able to "assist" with them

This is not quite the same but the kids spilt a sticky drink over the tv controls. I took it apart and washed it with a mild sopy water.........it worked.

If you decide to do any cleaning remove the battery and remove the cmos battery inside the laptop. This is essential. Them remove the hard drive and memory.

What your left with is just a PCB board. The only really bad bit is the screen. any faults on that and it's kaput.

The keypad should come off to gain access to the key buttons underneath.

When all said and done if it dont work you have nothing to lose.

Do take the hard drive out though, you can get you infomation off of that quite easy. PM me if you want to know how.

from personal experiance of this as working in the IT Dept in the Falklands and working where i do, the laptop will work if none of the liquid got into the power pack (inside laptop) and none of the larger current circuits shorted out, but most of the time if the laptop kept on straight after, it will work... just allow it to dry fully and you will be sorted.

i had an ipod that went through 2 washes in a washing machine and it still works to this day and that was 3 years ago. also my mate poured a 2 litre bottle of coke over his laptop, in an insurance bid to get a new laptop, but it still works now.
