Default Lack of Power in my 806

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and have decided it's high time I get more hands on with the maintenance of my cars. Cameras and computers are my specialist field so it' way out of my confort zone!

I have a 2001 806 2.0l HDI. I've only had it 3 months myself and it's had a new rear exhaust section and alternator inthat time. But the on-going issue is serious lack of power.

It takes a while to get up to speed (30/40 mph) on the flat and doesn't feel to have any kick. Up hills (minor or major inclines) it is a pure nightmare. I crawl up in 2nd gear at 20 mph, it has nothing to give at all.

I have limited funds and can't afford to get it back into the mechanic just yet. So, I have been trawling the net for possible answers. I've seen mention of a mysterious something at the back of the engine that Peugeot said isn't needed so just cover it to split turbo hoses (or even the tubo but I'm trying not to contemplate that!).

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to meeting you all on here.

Cheers

David

This is the comment I have seen about something that isn't needed and can be blocked off - taken from a comment on the HonestJohn site:

Quote:
I had a turbo problem and I could not get it fixed at several places - eventually I took it to a dealer (Warners in Tewkesbury) and they sorted it out - cost me £18. There was a unit at the back of the engine that had failed / was leaking; apparently this unit is not really necessary so the guy just blocked it off (would have cost a lot to replace it). That was about 3 or 4 years ago and the car has run fine ever since. The symptom of the problem was that the turbo just did not seem to cut in and there was a real lack of power / difficulty getting up hills.

I think he means the EGR, and if it's loo-loo'd then removal and blanking off will help hugely.

I take it that it's the HDi 90?

Erm? How do I know if it's the HDI 90? What does the 90 mean?

The power output. The 110 is identifiable by having an intercooler, the 90 does not.

Oh now it gets technical

Well according to eurocarparts.com when I enter my reg it says my car is 110 bhp so I guess I have an intercooler then.

Right, I carefully cleaned by MAF sensor on Friday night and it's deffinately improved uphill performance. I wouldn't say it's brilliant but it's a lot better than it was.

I've seen mention of faulty clutches causing this kind of power issue, how would I be able to diagnose this? Anyone?
