Oh yeah - is there some sort of process to do this in too? Like sanding down with a million different grades of sand paper?

The trick is to ensure adhesion to the trim.

You will need a few grades of wet/dry sandpaper, get this in halfords. Then you will need some plastic primer, upol is the best stuff I think but halfords brand is also supposed to be good. Then you just need to get your colour, halfords can mix you up a good colour of your choice, you can get it online or some motor factors offer this service. Then you will need some clear lacquer to top off to give it a nice finish.

Im no expert but basically this is the process. You could also get the sprayer tool that would make it much easier but since the job is small aeresol cans are fine.

Hmmm... This must be the point where achieving the same colour/effect on both normal plastic and vinyl becomes a problem...

I'll have a look at Halfords website.

Cheers Daffy!
