Default a hyperthetical question for the board

if you had bought a car unknowingly it haveing an engine change,so when you do need a part for the engine, you think your getting the right part when your not, follow me?
anyway theres no engine plate on the engine in the car so i do not know what engine/engine number or engine code i have or need.

the question im saying is,how would you find out what code the engine will be to be able to buy parts for it

Every engine has a number, even replacement ones. If yours is scrubbed out then I would start to worry as the engine could be stolen or your car could be ringed, make sure you check your vin no's all match up.

I don't think its normally a plate, thought the number was engraved into the body to prevent such a thing

Yes, think its on the main body. Not sure exactly where on each one though - did ask Peugeot once when I needed to check on my 306, and he laughed and said you'd have a hard job actually seeing it - down under on the front side for them.
