Default How to get rid of cigarette smell

The car we have recently bought was previously owned by a smoker who obviously never open the windows and used the ash trays whilst puffing away. I've cleaned out the ash trays and have a air freshner but the smell is still there.

Anyone any suggestions how to rid a car of the smoke smell?

Years ago when i worked in a Ramada hotel in Reading the house maids used bowls of Vinegar to get rid of smoke smells but i can`t remember if it was malt or distilled.

Get an odour bomb. You can get one for cigarette smoke, just ebay it or better yet visit detailingworld.com

Find the bugger who did it and make them suck it out!

The smoke smellgoes right into the fabric and is a bugger to remove.

I finially got it out of my wifes jeep by:

1. Steam cleaned the carpets
2. Got 3 cans of that canned car fabric cleaner (with the brush built into the end) and used them on the roof lining
3. Washed the leather down a couple of times with spray and wipe and a warm soapy rag.
4. Used a more industrial cleaner (Simple Green) on all the plastic and glass
5. Changed the pollen filter and washed out as many of the air vents as I could get to.

Bombed the car with frebreeze a couple of times and its 99% good now. On a very hot day, it comes back a bit - more oder remover.

I reckon that the bulk of the smell was captured in the roof liner - makes sense since smoke rises. So scrubbing it back 3 times made the biggest difference.

I can never understand why people smoke in cars with all the windows closed....I mean, just how concentrated does the smoke have to be to give you your buzz ?

Scrubbing the crap out of the car is the only way I'm afraid, unless you both take up smoking.

try some of these:
