Default How dead is my motor?

Hi everyone.

Someone is coming to see my car today, so I tried to start up last night, and the battery is dead.

So this morning I went to jump start it, and I managed to cross the polarities (don't ask, I feel stupid..) - How dead is my car?

I tried to turn it over while they were the wrong way, nothing happened, I got out and saw thick smoke just softly leaving the negative terminal on mine (connected to the positive on the gammy punto).

The punto is still fine but when I corrected the leads nothing happened...

Please say it's a cheap fuse I can pick up locally.

Have you checked all the fuses and fusible links in the engine bay fusebox?

I had one of those. I fitted a BSI, Engine Ecu and BM34 fusebox. They were all blown out of it.

Well speaking in Euros, an ecu, E800, Bsi, E350 and a Bm34 fusebox, E150-200 depending on level. All these prices plus vat.

A lot more than you're selling the car for

Would definitely be time to bin if this was the case.

Stick a rope on it and tow it down the road to see if it starts , what harm can you do now

Just got in from work and tried my mates jump leads on the car. started first time!

So:

a) the car has some sort of failsafe that isolates everything until BSI resets

b) I burnt out the first set of jump leads (very thin jump leads, maybe I have to be thankful that they were the cheap low ampage ones)

Either way all the gadgets work and I sat in it for half an hour while it charged. I straightened her up on the drive and really miss her

So, Vectra next week
