Knocking noise could be wheel bearings or driveshaft.

cv joint should be no more than £45.00 to buy.As to MOT pass, as long as the joint is not falling apart and the cv boot is not holed or split it should not be a problem.

Try the comparison websites for Insurance ( Even the silly Meerkat one ) I am older than you but always found " The Post Office " , Admiral, or AXA pretty good. Just changed to Peugeot & the dealer gave me a Peugeot Insurance leaflet . I went with them as they gave me a good deal......OH yea , I have got 15 yrs no claim discount !!

For personal use i find tesco the cheapest 13yrs ncb mondeo ghia x.
A word of caution if you lower it that is going to make quite an impact with the insurance.

Thats what is keeping Swift cheap though..... mods to cars are generally boy racer types who naturally rise insurance premiums
