Default Faulty ABS/ESR fixed???

I have been having the usual problem of the faulty brakes. Initially I was told by KwikFit it was a faulty brake light switch which I replaced but the problem persisted. I then went to a decent mechanic who is trustworthy and he read the codes and said it was identified as a problem with the rear driver side abs sensor.

I followed the advice on the forum and looked at the sensor which had some damage to the surface of the sensor which sits behind the hub. There was a lot of grease/dirt and surface scratching. I cleaned it up and refitted it but noticed it was sitting catching the hub. Ordered a new one and refitted this morning, sits perfectly with about 1.0mm gap. Took the car out for a drive to see if it was fixed. The grinding of the front passenger side was apparent at first as usual and then disappeared. Brakes appeared to be more responsive but after about 2miles the lights popped up on dash. Braking fault!!!

Would I be right in saying that the fault will still be present until the codes have been cleared and once that has been done it should be fine?

Could be a broken wire too. I've had a few of them. I'd be checking the wiring between the sensor and the ABS ecu first to rule that out.
