Default Ethanol in fuel E10/E5

We've had 95E/E10 here for a few months, and I've run a couple of tankfuls without anything negative so far. But, in Germany, there seems to be a big stick being kicked up, and here a mate who has a Citroen C5 said it made his car out out black smoke...

So far, it seems to me to be a repeat of the switch to unleaded. I heard many folk crying that unleaded would wreck your engine, blah blah blah... Most folk failed to notice that most Japanese cars had been designed to run on the stuff for about ten to fifteen years prior to Europe introducing it.

I thought most cars could run on ethanol with minimum of modification anyway (or is that cooking oil?), so why would adding ethanol be so bad.

The only thing I have noticed is that on very cold days, the exhaust smells nicer!

The stuff racing cars is use is around 90% ethanol and 10% petrol. Some cases they run on methanol.

The idea here is to reduce the reliance on oil/petrol. The price hasn't changed because of it. Yet...
