Default Clutches

Not a Peugeot car, however, generally speaking....

... currently experiencing problems engaging 2nd and 3rd gears in gf's Clio. Not always a problem, but fairly often you need to 'force' it into gear, or neutral, clutch out, clutch in and try again. I'm already thinking new clutch required.... agree with this consensus, or could there be something else related to the problem?

Slight rattle when in neutral with clutch up, but not loud enough to be 100% sure its this.

So the 3 piece clutch kit includes this thrust bearing? Heard of them before, but don't really know what they do.

I've had some bad luck, my first cars never had any clutch/gearbox problems (2 x 306) and they had high mileage (157k and 191k a piece). Then when my 306 got written off through an incompetent German on holiday in Cornwall, I had a temp Volvo V40, which did have a duff clutch - found out a month or so after buying but never had it done as was going to be £500-£700 to do on a car worth not much more. Then, as you've said, did have it done on my 407, but that was mainly as a result of a knackered DMF and clutch replacement was just path of the course by having that done.

Her Clio has got 126k on the clock, so hasn't done bad really... and did only cost her £600 2yrs ago, and this is the first thing we've had to pay out for on it, so can't be too bad.

What would you expect a garage to charge for this job? I've seen 3 piece clutch kits are about £50-£60.

£60 labour sounds good

Reading through the Haynes manual, it doesn't sound like it is rocket science, but does sound like quite a bit of work though
