Arrow Citroen Xsara Picasso help needed with fault

Sorry, if posted in wrong place. I was welcomed by one of the mods to stay on here for help with my Citroen. Previously owned a 307HDI, didn't think I should post in the 307 forum.

Anyhow back to my fault. Owned the car for about a month. Noticed every now and then, I feel a sudden loss of power...more of a stutter really. Thought it may of need a bit of a blast on the motorway, so last week drove to Cornwall from Weston and back. Still have loss though. I have PP2000 and Lexia. The only fault showing in there is P1351. Looked around some are saying possible glow plug fault. I clear the code, re start the car, and code instantly logs back. I'm not a mechanic, but have know to dabble with clear instructions. Can anyone confirm this could be the cause for my slight stutter in power, and any idea how to repair the P1351 problem?

Many thanks for your time.

Paul

P1351 is for the glow plugs, this is taken from a Picasso forum I frequent. It should not be the cause of your stutter in power.

Any particular set of circumstances that allow you to reproduce the stutter consistently?

Like for example, I could come to a rolling stop around 2/3mph and boot it in 1st and without fail my car would loose all power for a second.

Could be air in fuel system , does it give a stutter on start up first thing in the morning?

Hi all.
Thanks for the replies.
I have read this code leads to a glow plugs, but don't know much about plugs. Should I put a new complete set in? Or if it's just one at fault, how would I know which one?

@philkerman & bettyswollocks. It does not seem to do it at slow speeds is all I can say so far. I would say mainly on acceleration or higher speeds. I will pay more attention to it's characteristics and try and provide more info. I thought maybe a turbo fault as it seem to happen when I need more speed from the car. Felt it too up hills. I had the car serviced recently and had all filters and oil changed ect. Believe fuel filter was changed too, so not sure if any air was left in there. Wouldn't know how to bleed the fuel system. That would make sense though to the stutter, the car kind of pulls back and quite noticeable. I was sure an error code would of been logged, but I don't get any engine light at all come on, and only the P1351 code is logged.

Many thanks

Check them with a multi-meter. but make sure you unplug the glow plug relay or unscrew each one at a time. Expect around 5 ohms. the duff one will be much higher.
you can change the lot but genuine ones are around 20quid a go unless you can source them elsewhere. don't be tempted to fit anything other O.E plugs they don't last!! (NGK,Bosch or Beru only)

Ok thank you stvstx. I do have a multi-meter. I'm not a mechanic and a real novice with solving the faults. Always willing to have a go though and learn from the experience. Will have to read up on how to do this over the net. Don't have the Haynes for my Picasso as yet. If all glow plugs readings are correct, then maybe it will be this glow plug relay...not sure what it is or what it looks like
Need to do some hard research!!
Thanks again

Massive problem on the 1.6 hdi, glow plugs. You will need to replace all of them.
Make sure whoever is replacing them they are aware that they can break in the head very easily.
They will not cause running problems but will not allow the car to do a regeneration if not all working. That is if your car has a particle filter. You will know by your chassis number, 9hy is no particle filter and 9hz is particle filter.

Many thanks for this reply. I may get main dealer to do glow plugs to save the worry of breaking them...thanks for the tip

I thought too my car had auto wipers, but I cannot find how to action this at all!

Mine is the 9hy so no particle filter. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not. I only found out the other day no filter, after adding my vin to citroen parts site. Here's full details from Citroen, sorry it's lengthy:

Oh if its 9HY, don't worry too much about the heater plugs.
