Bipper came with 12v accessory socket that takes different plug, I just got the Peugeot cigarette lighter socket from Peugeot dealer today and fitted it to find it is same fitting as 12v accessory socket, socket is 5mm shorter and 1.6mm wider inside than a standard cigarette lighter socket, Halfords are aware of it as warned me that a sat nav plug will not hold in socket, can't find the the shorter, fatter plug to fit anywhere, it a pain in the a__e.
Has anyone else had this problem if so how did you get round it? I understand this 22mm shorter socket is a European version but no one seems to make a plug to fit it, the original cigarette lighter socket is 20mm and Japanese 21mm, same plug will work on 20mm & 21mm but so loose in the 22mm it can cause tip to overheat by shorting as loose plug works it's way out so unless they make a plug or adapter to make it work properly it could be dangerous, only thing I can find to fit the 22mm is the cigarette lighter element unit. If you know of a 22mm plug supplier please post their details. Last edited by Contax; 05-08-2011 at 12:43 AM. |

Cant you just change the socket for a conventional one, eiuther aftermarket or from another Peugeot ?
My (07) 307 has a standard type socket that takes conventional accessory plugs including Sat Navs....I always assumed it was the stock fitting. It certainly looks as though it is |

Hi Charlie, I could do that but it's a new vehicle and when I ordered the genuine Peugeot socket service manager said it I fit it they will invalidate warranty (don't know if they really can), I have made the hole to fit it before I found out it's wrong size so now the hole in panel is to big to take a standard 20mm one, the Peugeot just fits to 3 pin plug on loom so I will end up having to find some 4.8mm male spade connectors to tap into the 3 pin socket for power (that would really upset them), I am going to order a new panel so I can re drill then fit old type and new type, will have to swap the panel with original socket on each time it goes back to Peugeot, it's a pain.
My 206SW was standard 20mm type as I still have lighter element so spares guy said you only need socket if you already have the 206 element so he can't be fully aware, service manager and parts guy took 45 minutes just to find part numbers, I also bought the ashtray and it is a Fiat part in a Peugeot box, same vehicle made as citroen, fiat and peugeot. OK, well how about if you fitted a genuine but more standard Pug power socket like
If you are not altering or breaking into the cars wiring (and we all know how finicky Pug wiring is) there should be no issue with warranty. Particularly when using Peugeot parts rather than aftermarket. It's difficult to see from the picture if it has the same connector to fit the car as you describe, but I guess you can always ask the seller. They appear to know what they are on with if they can ID fit from chassis numbers. While searching, I note you've been asking this same question all over the place - amazing that no-one else has faced or solved this problem mate. I am surprised that Peugeot do not offer a socket to fit their plugs ? If they do, its a simple case of buying something like Beyond that, all I can suggest is to surf the French/Italian Ebay sites for a plug or adapter. I have had a go at that this morning though and nothing particularly helpful came up. Then again, my French is schoolboy stuff and my Italian does not extend far beyond asking for a beer and a pizza ![]() PS After a bit more searching, I found some fitting instructions for that Peugeot power socket Here if it helps any

Hi Charlie, the one on eBay at Louth is the Peugeot 12v 180w Accessory Socket that is fitted on my car as standard, only the compressor with goo supplied fits it, it's not deep enough to take normal cigarette lighter plug and is the European 22mm, I thought the Peugeot cigarette lighter socket would be standard so bought it £12.52 but it is same fitting as Accessory Socket.
I have found a lot of people on net with the problem but no fix unless you class wedging cardboard in at each side to make it jam in socket, that is only suggestion I have found. Ring, Halfords and Hama have started making multiway sockets with a claimed universal plug, looks a bit of a bodge and not cheap, I am going to see if Halfords have one in stock to try in socket, emailed Ring but no reply. I am also going to buy a new panel and fit their cigarette lighter socket in their 29mm hole then I have a standard socket off a booster battery pack which I will make another hole for and connect with 2 x 4.8mm male spade connectors stuck into their 3 pin socket, will have to remove and refit original each time it goes in to them for next 2.75 years. I looked under bonnet to see if I could poke a wire through from battery but nothing and i don't want to drill holes plus remove dash to do it. I am hoping someone will produce the 22mm plugs before someones car catches fire due to 20mm plugs arcing as reported on net due to very bad fit. Thanks for your help, if anyone else finds any info I am interested as it will be a help to others with the newer sockets. |

Nice topic,You have to take off the wood center, it only take 10 or 15 minutes to get off with a screwdriver using the writeup on E38.org.
So you remove pull up the shifter boot, remove the plastic piece and the the wood. |
