What engine is in it ?....have you recently had anything done to the car ?....is there any warning lights on the dash ? when you say imbalance do you mean it is revving up and down and won't stay at constant revs or is the engine just 'shaking' around more than usual ?

Coolant temp sensor!
Get a diagnostic check done.
It could also be misfiring!
