Question Buying a 407SW - Advice needed

I'm looking at buying a Peugeot 407 SW - 2.0D - X-Line...2006 model.

1. Are there any major know issues on these cars?
2. Does anyone have one of these and maybe advise on what their average MPG realistically?
3. It's got full service history, body work is excellent, 68,000, metallic grey, drives really smooth, no knocking (going to take it out for another drive) for £4,400 after knocking him down, does anybody know if that is that a good price?
4. I had a look at the forum about FAP and couldn't make head or tale of it! Does this car have FAP and is it something I need to be concerned about?
5. Inquisitive question, but will this car run on rape seed oil like my dads 306 SW?

Thanks for your time...

The X line doesnt have FAP so your buying the best model.

Heres a list of the main problems that blight the 407. Worth checking all these on your new motor before handing over the cash

Price wise if its as good as you say then it seems ok though i wouldnt pay over four personally but thats because im a tight Yorkshireman!

The link Seb included covers pretty much all the most common faults, might be worth if possible asking someone with planet to scan car before purchase.

Price wise seems steep to me I paid £5200 3 1/2 years ago for my 05 plate.

So far only issues I've had are abs sensors, tpms, egr valve and recently a wheel bearing.

I'd agree with the price. I sold my late 54 plate 1.6 407 for £2500 a few months ago - service history, 74000 miles, VGC and so on.

When I put it up for sale I saw it was competing against cars which were for sale when I bought it in July, they're just not shifting.

If I were you I'd print out a list of all the 407 faults and show the dealer and tell him you'll be doing him a favour taking it off his hands!

Try and get a warranty with it. Got mine with the remainder of the Peugeot warranty, then got it extended for another two years. Third year they started asking silly money. Got some quite expensive warranty work done on the car in the first couple of years of ownership
Two bills I saw at the service desk covering work on the alternator and some turbo valve came to £3200

Malcolm.

To be honest I'm not wanting to buy the car if I have to take a list of faults to the dealer to get it at the price I want! Is it really this unreliable? I'm wanting to buy a car that lasts me at least 4 years...

So how do I get a warranty with it? Who is a good warranty person to go with that won't try and get out of sorting out problems on the car?

Not unreliable just a few common faults like all modern cars, you can get horror stories about any make if you look hard enough, I know plenty of 407's with well over 100k on the clock and still going strong.

They are good to drive and are very comfortable.

Can you find out if it's had any of the common faults sorted like tpms, abs sensors and ball joints.

Clutch and dmf shouldn't be an issue, doesn't have a fap/dpf so now worries there, tpms if you turn it off no more issues and anyone with planet can do that for you.

Sorry for being a newbie but what is planet and how would I get somebody to do it? I'm in Sheffield if that helps...

Also would there be anyway for me to get a history check from Peugeot, for example could I ring them up and check what's been done to it if anything at all?
