I know I am only new here but looking for some words of advice and wisdom.
I currently own a 407 SV 136 2.0L diesel. Coming home today, put my foot down to overtake on a hill, reached about 3000 revs, maybe a little over, felt car go sluggish, changed into 4th, then engine reved to max, 5000+, blue smoke at rear. Imediately switched engine off but it remained running, put car into 4th and slowly released clutch with brake on to stop engine. After about 1 min, restarted car, cleared smoke from exhaust after say 2 mins, car ticking over great, drove away, fells sluggish as if no turbo power, with a whin noise from engine as if something is speeding up then slowing down as I stop light acceleration. Car got me home, no warnings from computer etc. Feels like turbo has blown or gasket but I dont know. Believe it or not we were just talking too about trading in. If someone can use there wisdom here, will using the car without a turbo cause problems? Dave |

Deffo sounds like a blown turbo mate and the oil that spills through the turbo seals will cause your car to take off like that. Take the intake pipe off the turbo when cold and put your finger in the turbo to check for play or try turning the shaft. Any play or none movement means a blown turbo
As for using the car i would not as it is possible for the oil to get through the turbo again and take off or even blow the engine Last edited by bigjohn0; 04-02-2011 at 04:38 PM. |

Any rough cost to replace turbo?
Engine starts ok and runs smooth, no smoke from rear. If I rev, there is a whine noise, sounds from left side as looking from front end. When I remove revs the whine slows down. |

Follow the pipe from the air box and you should find it at the back of the engine. You might need to get under the car to get at it from below. As for price you can get them recon for around 300-500 just depends on the place you buy it from and if your handy with the spanners fit it yourself or you will be looking at a fair chunk for a garage to fit it. As for using the car i really would not drive it because if the seals pop in the turbo it will just pump oil into the exhaust and damage the cat or even worse the engine will just burn its own oil and only stop when there is no oil left in it and lock up.Hope this helps mate |

I appreciate your replies, what might the siren type engine noise be, the whine noise?

hi,,forget the noises and stop starting it,carry on running it and you will end up needing a new engine.

Just checked my oil, it looks to be normal level but have noticed the water reseroir on the left side is empty, could a blown turbo do this?
