Default Algae in the fuel tank

Not a Peugeot, but it is a diesel. Has anyone come across this before?

i did a quick search regarding this and apparently its very common in diesels...more common in bio diesel then petro-diesel but it still exists. its normally seen as a black sludge...and if thats a case my car has it...but they say to help prevent, they say replace fuel filter, use algeacides and keep your tank topped up to prevent moisture in the tank.

btw if that has been mentioned on that link, i appologise as i cant view it due to stupid work pcs

The expert on the report in the link says it mostly affects diesel tanks that sits around a long time (e.g. boats) or where the tank is not topped up. He suggested a product called Stanadyne - i've looked and although it says it has an effect on the water (I assume he means condensation inside the tank) I'm not sure how it would work... probably leaves a waxy film on the inside of the tank.

But yes, regularly changing the fuel flter would help but I suspect the problem starts in the tank.

This was a common problem in aircraft. Water in the fuel separates out and the algae, or fungus grows on the layer where they touch. Most if not all aircraft fuels now contain a fungicide, so the problem is less common. Low temperatures make it worse as the diesel tries to wax up, and the water separates out easier.

I went to clean out my 307 one time around the 180,000 mile mark and there was no dirt in it at all ,was surprised, but won`t be going to clean any other tank in a hurry ,think its a waste of time.
