Hi. I have a problem with my air con on peugeot 406 2.0 hdi 2001.
I've had it regassed, there are no leaks and the condensor clicks on. However the air that comes out is not cold. The radiator fan doesnt come on either when air con is switched on although it does switch on/off when engine is hot but not at a great speed. My question is, is there a seperate fan that blows the cold air into the cabin or does it run off the radiator fan. I do,however feel cool air when the car is moving at speed which says to me that there is a 2nd fan which isnt working or if it runs off the radiator fan could it be the relays and if so, is there a way of testing them. Help is greatly appreciated. |

Radiator fan does purely that... cool the radiator.
There are a whole other set of fans in behind the dash for blowing air into the car.

Hi again..Im still trying to work out how the aircon unit works..My wife has a renault scenic. When aircon turned on the radiator fan comes on at a fast speed.when turned off it also turns off.. My question is,does the fan do this on my 406.as i said in my previous post my radiator fan comes on but a lot slower in comparison and turns off..is there a way of testing the fan.Or the relays. The blowers in the car all work fine..you can feel a small amount of cold air from time to time but it seems to coincide with the fan on the radiator turning on/off
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. |

If its the same as my 407, then yes the radiator fan does run at a slower speed than what it does if trying to cool the engine, and yes does come on and off with the air con coming on and off.
AFAIK, the radiator fan has got absolutely nothing to do with the air con at all.... purely comes on to keep engine cool as with air con on you put more load on the engine. It would sound like there is something wrong with your compressor, or leak/low gas, even though you say its ok, its not unknown for a leak to occur after a regas.
