our 807 failed its mot this morning due to "anti lock braking system warning lamp indicates an abs fault" so off I went to our local Pug diagnostic centre and had them to run a check to see which abs sensor was duff. He comes back into the waiting room and tells me there is nothing wrong with the abs system its the "main brake switch " and this was on the print out he gave me,
ABS or ESP ECU RECO_V4 main brake switch information fault I rang the mot garage and told them the result of the diagnostic and they told me that they had never heard of a break switch fault causing an abs light fault! After much debate they are going to put a new switch in on thursday. Anyone heard of that before ? Paul |

I always thought that the brake switch was the switch that activated when the brake pedal was pressed activating the brake lights!! - had that in nearly every car iv owned , unless pugs are different. Id love to know tho

The brake light switch will cause the ABS light to come on. The ABS ecu needs to know when you are pressing the brake. Its needed for Cruise control and needed by the engine ecu also.

Yes, I can absolutely confirm from my 307 SW, faulty brake light switch can put on the ABS/ESP light!
As David said, the computer needs to know when the brakes are being operated, and this information comes from the brake light switch. If it doesn't get a signal from the brake light switch, but is getting info. from other sensors that brakes are maybe being applied, it throws a "wobbly" Phil
