Hi, I own a 51 plate Peugeot 406, ex Company Car. Its done 144,988 miles. Just before I owned it it had its 1st clutch changed, and last year @ 126k miles it had the high pressue diesel punp and lift pump in tank replaced due to the usual known faults with these.
I have noticed over the last few months a small puddle of what I now know to be diesel where I park the car over night. I finally looked at it today with a mechanic friend as the car is due for a service soon anyway, so was just generally looking at the car to check for potential issues during service. I noticed on the near side of the engine between the battery to back of engine block there is a pipe/something similar covered in dirt, looking wet and smelling/stinking of diesel. Looking below this you can see its obviously been dripping/leaking for a while and chasis leg and everything below this is wet. Does any 1 have any clues what this could potentially be? I will post some pics tomorrow and hope it can show things better then my poor descriptions ![]() Oh just to say I can say for sure its not the fuel filter well/where fuel filter is. I have changed these b4 after I had the high pressure pump replaced, so I know what and where that is, and also checked the drain plug on the bottom of the filter well is securely done up. Also the leak is on the other side of the engine. :s Cheers Paul Last edited by mad4it; 03-13-2011 at 10:58 AM. |

Hi
On my old 406 hdi I lost 30lt of diesel in a 10 mile trip, got back to see a diesel spill up the drive. One of the injector leak off pipe had given up, fuel all over engine bay but I could only see it with engine running. Thanks Vpug |

Oh and as far as I can tell I am not losing that much fuel. Its a very small leak. I still get 50 MPG with mixed urban and city driving, and about 650 miles+ out of a tank for fuel.
I have seen on clear sunny day where I have parked for over 2 hours and was a spill on the area I parked to prob just about cover the bottom of a standard sized coffee cup. Only thing the car does suffer from and has suffered for years from is problems starting in very cold weather. This might be nothing to do with the diesel leak of course. |
