Hi all, new to this forum so be gentle with me
![]() i has a 406, 2.0 hdi on a 51 plate. i recently noticed that the radaitor cooling fan was not kicking in when the temp went above 90. before i go all out and look around for a complete new radiator kit is there anything else i could try? does the fan have its own fuse (i cant see it mentioned in the handbook) and if so can someone point me in the right direction? i also read somewhere on this forum it could be a problem with the "fan resistor coils" where are they? are they easy to get to and cheap to replace? any help you can give would be much appreciated, as you can tell, the engine compartment is another world to me, but i dont mind getting my hands dirty. Thanks Rob |

The cooling system is operated be a set of relays. I'd be looking there first. They are behind a cover beside the rad fan, on the front side. Its a pretty complicated setup. You'd need a wiring diagram to figure it out.

ok so here's the story so far, i've changed the thermostat, i've changed the 2 relays on the fan housing, ive changed some of the 30 & 40 amp fuses and still the fan wont kick in.
but.....i know for certain that it does actually work because i attached it to a 12v battery and it turned on first time......so the question now is where does the fault lie?? i have the owers handbook, and a haynes manual but cannot for the life of me find a specific fuse that controls the cooling fan? can anyone else add any suggestions as electrics is not my strong point. Cheers Rob |

Hi Elma
the temp has been up into the red with the "STOP" light on the dash flashing. the only way we can cool it is to open all the windows and turon the heating on full blast. not good on a 4 hour journey. again, this is ONLY when towing a caravan, in normal driving the temp dosent go past 90. Rob |
