Default 406 HDi fuel pump ring URGENT

Got the tank off my HDi to replace the knackered pump, and when the new one is put in situ, the large plastic retaining ring, (Which is a brand new dealer part.) won't screw onto the top to hold it in.

Any ideas?

Need the car back on the road asap.

Right then.

The net result is, I phoned the local stealers up this morning, and as it goes against the grain of me using them, they have agreed to do it for me, and it should be about £20. Now ordinarily I wouldn't go down this route, but as it was hacking me off big time, and I need the car back on the road like yesterday, it was the only route to take.

They rung me this afternoon, and said it should be done tomorrow.

Let's hope they manage to do it ok, although I'm suspecting they will have it back on in a jiffy, and then I can get the tank home, and back on the car.

Everything back together now, and my pocket is £20 lighter, but at least I know the engine fires up ok.

Little misfire a couple of times after initial start which I expected, But I'll be road testing it this evening.

Well, it's running.

However.......

At tick over it misses a beat, kinda like a petrol car whose got one of it's spark plugs going down.

I think it may have air in the system, but how do you get rid of/check it has?

On the wifes Xsara HDi, which is an 02 plate, there is a priming bulb/pump at the front of the block.
